Learning Mathematics: A Community Collaboration
Abstract
This article provides a “snapshot†of a service learning activity in an elementary school with prospective elementary teachers of a southern public university in a mathematics content course on arithmetic for elementary teachers. The activity involves constructing equivalent fractions by understanding the importance of the whole in fractions using arts and crafts. This article explores the service-learning activity incorporated in the math content course to give meaningful interpretation of abstract mathematics to prospective teachers.Â
